Roof Rack Misadventure

All of your input are appreciated....

I chose the Yakima as it was about a third of the cost, and is obviously well made. Yakima was definitely non-contributory in this incident.
However, I would like to see the Porsche/ Thule crossbars and how they mount. The Yakima "feet"/ towers are plastic with a simple rubber ring which rests on the roof and mounting area. I was a bit surprised of how much surface area it touches.
I've seen other applications on BMW's where the "feet" mounted directly inside of the threaded locking point and there was no contact with any painted surface.
Again, I've not had any problems with the yakima mount that rests on the surface but I could easily forsee some type of movement, rotation, dirt, that could.
Does the Thule/ Porsche mount touch the surface as well? I'd be willing to convert.

I can't tell you how exactly the Porsche Thule rack mounts. My car was delivered about a week ago, but I won't see it in person for another 2+ months as I'm deployed overseas.
My next assignment comes with a lengthy training pipeline split mostly between VA and RI, so there will be alot of travel with a similarly loaded 911 on I-95 starting in March or so. I'll try to remember to post some pictures.
Now for the other important question...what are your rides? The picture is a bit out of focus, so I'd be taking big swags, but I'm guessing that the orange/white frame is an IF (Independent Fabrication), and the one on the left with the deep rim wheels is a natural Ti frame (Seven maybe, or Litespeed?)

Orange and White is actually a Novara Strada, REI's brand I hear made by Giant? Decent components (105) and frame: CF Front & Rear, (crap wheels of course) for ~$1100, and the other is (yes you have a good eye) Litespeed Titanium with Ultegra throughout.
Yes, please post some Porsche/ Thule pics, especially of the feet.
Thx.
