wtf is it with the 05's?

two came in as trade ins in our used car end both blew while being brought out for test drives(makes a great impression on 1st time p car buyers...), the third was waiting outside to be ppi'd for us to buy(thank god we didnt two days earlier), all three were only dealer(2 diff, usually good, ones) serviced which isnt sayin much but still i doubt they did anything incredibly stupid, and 2 or three engine failures is nothing in a high volume shop, we've replaced almost 15 boxster and 996 motors, the suspicious part is these were very low mileage cars, the others were all upper mileage(50k+)... i just work in the office so idk about ne mech changes but ill find out and let u no, imo the 05's just seem to have some voodoo hex curse lol
The earlier Boxsters had piston sleeve issues, and I've heard of 996 engine failure. But the rate of failure I've witnessed on a Porsche, versus, say......... a SAAB is few and far between. We replace on average 2 SAAB engines a week. Versus 1 Porsche engines in 6 months. And we are a large dealer.
Engine failures do and will constantly happen. Honda's, Toyota's, BMW, Lexus, MB and even Porsche.
you have a CONTROLLED explosion going on. With LOTS of moving parts. Shite, happens.

You might want to clarify your original post my friend. Your original post (as I read it) looks like you're referring to ONE single car; with 3 engines.

as far as the original clarity, yea i coulda worded that better lol

you are very brave, ill close our shop before ill let a saab in lol, if it doesnt have a crest we wont touch it. and yea motors have a lot going on... but its really not that difficult to make one that will last esp in a high end car, hell tata can make a motor..... and a whole freakin car, sell it at $2,500 and make a profit, and im sure itll run more then 15k miles... the 996/997 motors are just poorly made
as far as the original clarity, yea i coulda worded that better lol

But this is my issue; WHAT are you comparing the Porsche engines against? Against what? A Tata? That engine has the complexity of an engine about 50 years ago. Compare it to a engine of the same caliber...
Porsche's 911 engines are, for the most part- hand built. And the engines themselves are very complex.
I think your assesment of their engine quality is very unfair and- not to insult; uneducated.

Look we get it, Your a sales manager, your not going to admit there are any issues with these motors. You have whats known as an "Basis opinion".
If I sold carrots for a living and someone came on here saying that carrots caused cancer, I would never agree either..
With that being said, I've heard lots of stories from lots of people that back up what Baron is saying.
But I'm not a sales manager.. Does that mean I'm also uneducated and my opinion does not count?

Hey self proclaimed non baller, no where in my post did I claim that Porsche engines haven't experienced failures..... if you scroll up you can read what I wrote.
... and if you knew who I was you'd never say that bout me.
IMS. RMS issues... I get It

Take it outside boys. I have been with Pcars for 14 years. Rear main seal blowouts? Check, occasional 996 engine implosion? Check. All things mechanical can or will fail. It happens.
By the way Shaz, nice Avatar!
Baron - Who the heck is driving these cars? We do NOT have problems with engines like this and I have many clients who are PCA DE drivers. You should check the OBD for over revs. That seems very unusual.

Are you talking about 05 997 engines or 05 996 Turbo S engines? I've got a 996 Turbo S (05) and it's never even hiccuped. It's lightly modified, and absolutely rock solid, I use it as my daily from spring through fall, and use it for Porsche DE events too.
Since the turbo engines don't have the RMS issue, I'm gonna assume you're talking about the 997's. But as there were two cars in 05, this should be clearer......

LOL- trust me; I'm not happy about it. Once we 100% know what's going on with SAAB; we'll know whether it's worth it to invest in putting the SAAB service department in a seperate building. Until then....
But this is my issue; WHAT are you comparing the Porsche engines against? Against what? A Tata? That engine has the complexity of an engine about 50 years ago. Compare it to a engine of the same caliber...
a 996 gt3 motor.... boom, mindf*ck lol, the motor that should be in all 996/997 based cars, even the turbo has the same crap bottom end as the base models, i'm not trying to be some hate monger, i was just making an observation
as far as the tata, it costs less then a tenth and makes a fifth of the power so the observation is somewhat accurate
Porsche's 911 engines are, for the most part- hand built. And the engines themselves are very complex.
they are complex, however the quality on the base motors(boxcar/996/997/non gt) is crap, that is my point, the design is mediocre at best and its just an overall poorly put together package. for what they charge for a crate motor it should be significantly better quality
I think your assesment of their engine quality is very unfair and- not to insult; uneducated.
i guarantee any respected independent porsche mechanic shares the same opinion. if you do not believe me take a 996(subaru motor) and a 996 gt3(porsche motor) apart and compare them, for christ sake the 996 turbo uses 993 rods(crap) among other components, i realize you need to protect the image, and not to insult - ur not backing anything with fact

on top of this the initial observation is that 05 997's (not turbo s' idk where that came from lol) have a voodoo hex on them and grenade under no load with low mileage
