Al - We never really get deep snow here. I'm more concerned about the logistics + the idiots around here. I drove my RS4 all last winter with no problems, so I guess the same with the C4S, but I just shudder to think about someone crunching my baby.
I thought about those too, but the price rockets up as soon as you add 4x4, etc.

I'd go for the truck option. I'd also hate having so many machines to maintain and move around but in your situation, having a truck to trash around is the most logical choice. You can leave it parked on the street, drive with all the morons around you when snow hits, haul stuff in it, etc. That I think should give you the peace of mind that you seek.
Cheers!

Quoted for irony.
I would suggest getting a truck or comfortable simple suv.
1) you know they put so much chemical on these roads during the winter that it can't be good for the c4s
2) I don't fear for the moron drivers as much as I would for the h2 driving inept drivers that would see a c4s go in the snow, stop paying attention, and slide right into you. I've seen that happen around here before.
I got a simple nissan murano to get me through the winter months, I say suv just for the sheer extra size of the vehicle and peace of mind involved.
Small cars getting rammed and slid into by big trucks = not cool. So get a moderate size truck to be safe.

Checked on some stuff today... I can get a GTI (purchase) for about $400/mo for 60 mos (0.0%) with nothing down. Sounds pretty good to me. Going to check on BMW tomorrow. Saw an Xterra (2007 w/30K) for $18K @ Carmax - that would be good, too. Decisions, decisions.
The upside with Tron's M3 is that I could turn it into the track car I want bad.
