^ When I first graduated college I did a morning paper delivery thing for the Washington Post to make some money, within the first 2 weeks we had a 5 inch day and then a 14 incher. Luckily I had my trusty All Wheel Drive steed (Suby) and made all 150 deliveries....every day, God that job sucked.

what would I do? buy a GTI!
we have 0% financing for 66 months. you'll stay within your monthly budget and you can basically sell it whenever and not be upside down because you'll be hacking away at that payoff monthly
that's just me though

You guys have it great in the US... 330/ month for GTI lease??? In Canada it's probably closer to $700/month.
Anyhow, a WRX may not be a great option for heavy snow, but I'm sure it'll be fine in NoVa. And in retrospect, you may even become a Subie addict ahha. With the WRX, the modding opportunities are endless.

To his credit, they were all performance related and quality parts. I'd give him exactly 72 hrs before the Endless rotors and BBS wheels are on order, to start.

Ha ha you guys are funny. I've been checking on trucks - I cannot bring myself to by a piece of shit that will fall apart after hitting a pothole, so all the ones I've seen are $17K-20K, etc. As far as running summer tires year-round as Schwabe suggested, I think it's a recipe for disaster. When we got our first dusting last winter, my RS4 on PZeros felt like I was driving on Crisco. That's not even mentioning all the folks in the ditches. I don't want that to be me!
The last option I hadn't been considering until now was to just put winters on my stock wheels, but I am not sure there are 305 winter rears even available (or even a good idea). It's frustrating since I'd be able to run a GT3 year-round in San Diego!!!
Please keep offering suggestions - I am definitely listening!!
