Hold on to it for a while.

A) Market is pretty rough right now, car may not get what it deserves (I read the non-GT car issue of excellence you won, and it sounds like the car deserves A LOT).

B) Seems too early to say you may never enjoy the car again

By the way, I really enjoyed your write-up on the Panamera in the new Excellence!

All the best, hope you make a full recovery soon.

Scott:

Thank you very much on all three accounts (blessings, compliments on the car, both articles). I just got up, and that's a pretty solid start to a man's day. Good stuff.

There's someone that is very interested. Says that the magazine article on the 911 was a very big deal to them. Even talked yesterday about a some trades... cars I can't resist.

We'll see. I'm not needing to sell for money. I'm needing to get something I can drive right now. There's the shoulder issue, and then there's the issue that I do not see myself able (time or financially) to track/race for the next 2 seasons. My company was greatly affected by the downturn and so we started a new one. Yippeee! PLUS, just had a baby boy. So I've got all this going on, including the shoulder and pain, and I just want something that makes sense to drive to the lake in with my family. Something like a '71 Olds 442 convertible or so. I have no idea.

^^ dude you got to do what you got to do.... The car is amazing but if you have somebody seriously interested it may be the best idea to move it while you can...

Not to mention being the first one out with a modded Panamera Turbo would be amazing... Like I said in your other thread, I'm diggin the PanTurbs.

Jared,

Glad to hear someone is interested already. I can imagine the Excellence article was a big deal to them…it made me want your 911 too! If your reasoning is more for practical considerations over monetary, selling may not be a bad idea (especially if it involves some enticing trades!!).

I feel the most important thing a car does for us car guys is provides enjoyment of any kind. So if right now, your enjoyment will be found in cruising to the lake with the family go for it! You have plenty of time to build another track beast when the time is right.

Congrats on the baby, and on your new business venture.

Thanks so much, man. It's such an emotional thing, and I really appreciate the help on perspective.

Jared,

Best of luck with everything, I'm a firm believer that things work out for good people so I'm sure you'll be back in good health soon...

As for the car, I'd keep it if I were you. Things may seem gloomy right now, but you have a lot of good memories with the car, and there will be more to come... It was your hobby and your passion, and I think selling it at a huge loss won't make you feel any better about the situation.

I always told myself if I ever got to the point of not being able to drive for whatever reason, I'd still keep a nice car in the garage... Just to wipe down every once in a while and remember the fun times we had.

It is just a car, but we're car guys... it's in the blood.

Stay positive my friend,
Curtis

To those of you who have been on here a long time, I've not been on here very much lately. I miss you guys! I've stayed away because it's rough on me... given the situation below.

As all you buddies of mine know, I was at VIR last November and blew the engine. I replaced it with a brand new one, and that took a while. Then, I had reconstructive shoulder surgery in January (right/shifting shoulder). That didn't go perfectly, so I've gone back again. I drove my 911 for the second time (not counting 5 mile jaunts) yesterday. My shoulder's hurting a good bit still as I sit here typing. Literally, the car has less than 100 miles on the new engine. I'm not sure I'll ever recover to the point that I can fully enjoy that car anymore. Really a bummer. REALLY. So, I'm just sitting here reading all of your threads, and thinking that I might should just sell the car.
I haven't looked at how things are going right now in the marketplace, but I know I'll take a bath. I have receipts in the 6 figure range, PLUS the sticker.

Again, shoulder surgery was January 6. I'm still on pain meds. What do you guys think?

If you don't know me, or have forgotten me, my car is the black car in the middle here.

It won the shootout, and got some pretty heavy praise. I love that car. When I knew I was going to drive it finally, I got out of bed before 5am and just DROVE. Had a meeting at 9am. Didn't even stop for breakfast. Just took the longest, curviest way I could find.

Anyway, can some of you either give me guidance or help me get my head out of my ass? I actually told my wife earlier that I might have to sell the 997 and the A6 and get a Panamera Turbo.

Jared
Wow brother...
I am sorry to hear about the challenges that you've faced!

Listen, here is a silly notion. Enjoy your recovery with your shoulder AND your car.

I am very nearly a lifelong martial artist, and in 07 had an injury that looked like it was severe enough to prevent me from doing what I'd done all my life. But what I found out was that the recovery process was kind of like a re-birth and re-discovery of my passion.

Apply the same to your recovery. Enjoy growing again with your car. That thing is as much personal to you as it is machine.
