VF supercharger? - another "should I buy this" thread

This just fell in my lap. A VF Supercharger for my 997 (used) for $4k and it has 5,000 miles. Ahhh, what should I do? Should I buy it?

It'll probably cost me $2k for install. I believe retail price new is over $10,000. Let me know your thoughts. Voiding warranty, will it blow up my engine, etc.

umm... I have no expertise at all on this but I absolutely love the sound of a charged P-car so I say absolutely pick it up!

Yes! - Do It!
If you are worried about the warranty buy it anyway and don't install it yet

Ok I just got some more details on it. 4k for the kit, 2k for the install, 1k to reprogram the ECU and maybe some other misc items as well. I need to think about it...

Decisions....decisions...lol. Situations like this are always a tough call. Here's some advice I can offer. From my experience, VF makes a very solid product. The engineering and craftsmanship of their parts are always top notch, and the performance is always just as advertised. But here's some things to keep in mind about a supercharger setup. It's all about expectations. Many people assume that superchargers offer that "holy @#$t" kick in the butt feeling that you get from turbocharged cars. While the performance gains are certainly noticeable and substantial, it's a totally different beast.

Your best bet would be to see if you can get a ride in a supercharged car first. If that's not an option, then I'd say just read as many reviews and opinions as you can, and take them all with a grain of salt. Another step I would take would be to contact VF directly, and see what type of customer support they will provide you with, as a second owner of the system. That could play a big role.

And if all else fails, you could always just get in touch with us and go for the EVOMSit programming. Bang for buck, I think it will add a nice kick in the pants that you'll be happy with. After all, with a money back satisfaction guarantee, what do you have to lose?
