Porsche owner's manual states: For first 2000 miles - Take longer trips, Do not exceed 4,200 rpm, etc. Isn't this old school thinking? I thought new engine technology requires only 500 break in miles and the car should be driven at irregular speed and not long trips?
Can someone point me to the thread that discussed this issue?

There's two sides to this argument of course, the owners manual, and the real world. Growing up around engine builds, I was always taught to "drive it like your going to drive it, don't pus it around". It was explained to me like this: if you drive it like grandma for 2000 miles or whatever it is, the rings, rollers, journals, etc... won't seat right; then you will have problems down the road. The factory breaks the motors in, that job is not for the consumer.
