New guy from Colorado

The one I test drove was a 6spd, I quickly realized how much I miss going through the gears. Like I said in my first post I plan to throw on some extra HP shortly afterwards. Unfortunately the dealership does not have any PDK turbos, they have a Turbo S but that one is the owners...hmmmm

Thanks for the welcome, I've been learning a lot about Porsches from you all. I've been a fan since I was a kid and now looks the time is coming that I can pick one up.

^Nothing to be confused about Dave. I can never imagine driving any 911 with an automatic (yes, i know the pdk is really a manual that is....bla bla bla). At the end of the day, when the pdk novelty has faded, you'll be bored. At that point, your pdk will essentially be an automatic...
I mean really, how much work is driving a 6 speed car?
Just my two cents

I have PDK. It's a great transmission. Probably the best thing for a lot of folks, esp. in built-up areas. It's just different. If I had 4 cars, I'd probably have 3 manuals and one PDK car.
I bought mine w/PDK to try it out. The technology is awesome, the car is incredibly fast, and I never worry about missing a shift (money shift), etc. For me, a big part of driving a sports car is mastering that man-machine interface, which is why my future purchases will only be manual.
That said, if I get a Golf R in a few months, it'll be DSG (aka PDK). If my wife gets a TT-S, it'll be S-Tronic (aka DSG aka PDK). For me, it'll be a manual GT3.
Finally, I love how everyone here shit-talks PDK, but there is no hew and cry about essentially the same transmission in the 458 Italia. Sounds a little hypocritical, no? If paddles make the difference, order PDK with the paddle wheel. Personally, the little buttons are MUCH better than paddles once you've used them for more than a week.

^^ I was just comparing PDK to manual there. PDK compared to Tiptronic is a completely different story.
And I agree with you about the hypocritical atmosphere relating to the 458 Italia. The F1 tranny in the Ferrari, and the PDK are both great transmissions, but compared to manual in an experience aspect, they don't seem as great. In a performance aspect, they seem just as good or even better.
Once again, good luck with getting your GT3. Are you still considering going Gulf?

I recently test drove a 997.2 C4S with PDK and was encouraged to use the launch control several times by the salesman. In one word, WOW! Like being shot out of a cannon. Sub 3.0 sec 0-60 times for the Turbo S with PDK are being regularly posted by magazines. With that being said, I am with Chris (from Cali) the next P-car I own will have a stick-shift.

Regarding Ferrari, i find it a shame that they are eliminating manual transmissions...I am glad Porsche is sticking with three pedals (for the time being at least).
Chris, definitely agree with you, if you are gonna pick up a golf r, i would do DSG also. But the OP is talking about 911 Turbo/Turbo S, not a factory modded econobox. Love the GolfR btw.
Nothing against the PDK, it is a piece of work indeed. I have driven a few on several occasions and it is as great as advertised. Bottom line is that for true enthusiasts like ourselves it just wont cut it in the longrun.

Yikes! Didn't mean to start a PDK war but that is what is great about these sites, the passion
Being in Colorado Spring I won't have to worry about city driving. I've already mapped out a few roads to stretch the legs on the car.
I read on another site that some of the tt owners let their car idle for a min after they get back home, especially after some spirited driving to help with oil pressue? Anyone else do this?
