AWE Tuning Exhaust + GIAC Software = 128.59mph ¼ mile

Late 2010 a journalist from the Australian Motor magazine took a brand spanking new (and stock) 911 Turbo S to Eastern Creek and lay down a blistering 10.874 pass at 209.5km/h and simultaneously had the car banned from the drags unless a parachute and roll cage were installed.

Very impressive tune.
The fact that modern cars are easily capable of hitting below 11.50 isn't really a good argument to change the rule. The better point is that safety equipment in modern cars has gotten a lot better in the last couple of decades. Remember muscle cars with just a lap belt? Now we're surrounded by airbags in front of us, on the windows, in our seatbelts, etc. Unfortunately the rule cannot change because not all cars at the track are modern cars, and therefore you still have to think safety-first for someone going down the track sideways in a 30 year old muscle car with only a lap belt.
