daily car, such as Panamera or Turbo i'd go with PDK. however, if it's a weekend fun 911, such as GT3, manual no doubt. it's just more involving to drive.

For a 911/Cayman/Boxster, the involvement of shifting is much more entertaining, which is a huge reason we buy these cars in the first place. People can bang on and on about how great manual mode is, but truth be told, I don't want it. I want to challenge myself by making a deft 3-2 downshift. I want to be able to clutch in and coast sometimes (or put it in neutral and coast). Like I said before, PDK is great commuters and for people trying to get those last seconds on a track.

My next sports car of whatever manufacture will be a manual.

Not unless the manufacturer forces you to get an e-gear flipper-flapper auto tranny. FORZA FERRARI.

Also the Cayenne still only has Triptronic, 8 speeds though!

Are you trying to be ironic? Ferrari has officially lost me as a potential buyer by excluding manual transmissions. If you are a huge proponent of manual transmissions, there's no way you should be cheering Ferrari.

To the OP, wouldn't the more appropriate question be; NuVinci automatic shifting gear hub or traditional Shimano 7 speed?

Sturmey Archer 3 Speed fixed gear hub. They are actually making them again. Instead of farting around with buying the antique hubs from the 50s!
