Well, I have a studded winter tire now...

Here is the giant lag bolt I picked up.

The good news is: 1) the tire has about 750 miles on it so I decided to only order one tire, 2) front tires are cheaper, 3) it held air until I made it home, and 4) that weird rattle I heard driving home has been found!

I thought about plugging and patching the tire but the lag bolt is huge and $275 is worth the peace of mind a new tire affords.

Exactly. It is a Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero (N1) - great winter tire.

You're lucky to have made it home without a blow out. That's crazy!

How're you liking those tires by the way? I'm always looking for recommendations on snow tires...
