First timer. 16M at the Track...
Good morning to you all from sunny Cyprus
Yesterday being bored at the office, this video on youtube just came up:
It was enough to trigger my mind to hop into my 16M and take it to the track here in Cyprus
The track is called Achna Speedway. Its a small circuit around 2.2Km long with lots of turns and a small straight. It was my first time with on the track and wanted to share some of my thougts about the 16M. Something like the upps and downs that i found out.
To begin with i wanted to point out the brakes. first few laps i wanted to warm the brakes up so i was braking constantly in order to give them the temprature to give me a better feel, but it took me more than few laps to warm them! i had to go around the track at least five times for them to work better and as i was going round more they were getting better and better. It was quite surprising that they did not give me enough confidence to push the car harder!
Secondly regarding the tire pressure. I first kept the tires with the pressures that the booklet was recommending. 2.1 fronts - 2.0 at the rears. I found out that they werent working very well with the track so i dropped them both to 2.0 bars and it had better feel. Than after tracking for 20 minutes and having a 30 minute break i dropped the fronts to 1.9 and kept the rears at 2.0 bars. This time it felt much better. The rear had a tremendous grip. It was like when i was driving my karting many years ago. The rear was responding by not sliding at all but more like hopping on the corners(Might not be the right term but my capability of English language is this much ) but surprisingly the fornt grip was not well as i expected to be. It was understeering to much and the rears were gripping like hell so i could not oversteer it either
Hahahahaaaa this is becoming like my school essay Thirdly i was using the 16M on Race setting for the first 20 minutes because, honestly it was my first time on the track and could not take the risk of crashing it. After 20 minutes i turned it to the CT setting from the steering and felt that i could play a little more with the rear end. As you can see on the photos what struck me the most was that it had a lot of body roll! I thought it would have been a much stiffer on the track but was surprised.
This was some of the main things that struck me with the 16M but will give somemore opinions as i track it more next time;

Thanks for sharing! My advice is to take a few lessons and you'll have soooooo much more fun, I promise you this. Looks like you are on the wrong side of the track here, as you should be on the far side then turning in to the near side for a smooth line.
