Some new 458 Italia Options...
#11
All these manufacturers have gone stupid with the options. Why is it you can buy a $40K Acura that is LOADED when many of the same items are options on a $200K+ car???? There is NO justification. If you want to charge for the better leather, carbon, etc., build it into the price. It is just to fleece the well-heeled buyer into giving up more cash. I love my Porsche, but damn the options are silly.

I agree, the options prices are getting out of hand. Porsche seems to have started this trend with their 'book of options', most of which are very pricey. I don't deny the manufactures making money, and it's nice having options, but what they want for some of them is ridiculous. Lamborghini, Ferrari...$5K - $10K for carbon trim?? I know carbon isn't exactly cheap, but geez.
Plus, as we all know, much of it is lost at resale. Sure, some options may make the car more sale-able (carbon, colored stitching/gauges, etc.) - conversely, some buyers frown upon them - but loosing $10K or $20K (or more) in options is tough to swallow. Of course, if you're going to keep the car a long time, it's not as much of a concern.
Take Porsche, for example - $900 for colored gauge faces?? Come on...it's almost a kick in the balls. Yet, many of us buy them (I have.
). If I were ordering a new Porsche, I'd probably get the PCCB's if I knew I'd get half of the option cost back at resale, but that's not the case. Remember the X-50 package for 996 Turbos...$17K! What did it add at resale? Maybe $5K initially, then it dropped to like $2K later on. Nuts.
