I am not so sure it has to do with lazines... some drivers maybe. I am a die-hard manual transmission fan, but the fact of the matter is these cars have become so fast and so advanced, the manual transmission became one of the weak links. A proper SMG or DCT is simply faster, and when your mission is fastest, they are the transmission of choice.
That said I wished they offered a manual trans option, for those of us that will sacrifice a few tenths for some more involvement and fun. But people like us are only ~1%. Most want the fastest and most high tech trans available.

For driving around a track, i would choose the paddle shifters EVERY time; but for around town driving give me a manual.

This is how I would spec mine, needs slightly more lowering and red calipers.
