I thought they offered no extra braking performance over steels other than as the result of the reduced unsprung weight, and they don't fade, which wouldn't have helped in this circumstance.

ceramics are only better on the track... they perform better than steel only at high temperatures.
so yea you're right that they wouldnt have helped that guy.
