Engine Out

Luigi has this engine out of one of the 360s we have in the shop, and is giving it the full treatment. I had a chance to snap some pictures before he puts it back together. I hope you enjoy.

Carb so you know back in 2000 I had 1200 miles on my 99' 355 Spider and half the engine bank seized up and no one knew why.

thankfully it was under warranty at the time and Luigi was the guy who rebuilt it!
The car ran better then new, strong as hell!

I did not know that, but it makes sense... Luigi is like some kind of genius savant with these things.

In the eighth picture of my first post, you see a very close-up shot of part of the freshly-painted engine. When Luigi repaints these parts, he doesn't spray the paint on - he sprays the paint into a rag and dabs the rag onto the parts that require repainting. In this manner, he effects a perfect, even paint job without getting paint on surfaces that shouldn't have it, and all the while maintaining that texture. He's amazing.

Awesome pics! I love seeing these detailed shots of things you'd never see unless you worked on Ferraris all the time. Thanks for sharing!

Also, what's the dealio with the 16 velocity stacks? I noticed that there are two different shapes, presumably two for each cylinder. Can they be activated at different RPM ranges for more torque or more horsepower? I've never seen an engine that has done that before...

As a general rule of thumb, individual runners provide more even airflow than a regular plenum - I'd guess Ferrari found these two styles of runners aided in some way to the air's entry into the combustion chamber or maybe created some sort of swirl effect that took place on the intake stroke and made for better combustion. Just a wild ass guess!
