World Car Awards Really Loves the Porsche Taycan!
Porsche’s first production EV wins in both the ‘World Luxury Car’ and ‘World Performance Car’ categories.
In adherence to world events, the producers of the 2020 World Car Awards are revealing this year’s winners via digital media, and one brand that is coming up a big winner is Porsche AG. And we’re not the least bit surprised, especially when we’re talking about the Porsche Taycan.
The World Car Awards has declared Porsche’s popular electric vehicle as the winner in not one but two major categories: “World Luxury Car” and “World Performance Car.” Nice! Plus, this marks the sixth win for Porsche AG in the “World Performance Car” category, having previously won in 2017, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2006. It is the first win for Porsche AG in the “World Luxury Car” category.
“The Porsche Taycan was designed with a clear purpose: To show that an electric car could provide the performance, driving pleasure and everyday comfort and usability that characterizes every Porsche,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of Porsche’s Executive Board. “We are very proud that the international jury of the World Car Awards believes that we have succeeded.”
Vehicles were selected and voted on by an international jury panel of auto journalists from around the world. An international accounting firm tabulated the jurors’ ballots. Then, there were several stops along the road for the 2020 program, including one in Los Angeles in November for the sixth annual “L.A. Test Drives” event.
Then, the World Car Finals were launched live in New Delhi, India, from the Delhi auto show on February 5, when the Top 10 and Top Five finalists in five World Car Awards categories were announced. The World Car Finals continued with the announcement of the Top Three in the World finalists on March 3.
This year marks the 15th year of the World Car Awards partnership with the New York International Auto Show. The show has been rescheduled to August 28 through September 6. The World Car Awards will launch its 2021 program at this time instead of in Paris. The launch will include a preliminary list of eligible vehicles for the 2021 season.
