Team Speed at Monterey Car Week

Follow Team Speed to the exclusive grounds of The Quail golf course to see a special display of RUFs at Monterey Car Week.

Team Speed is at the 2018 Monterey Car Week, and, of course, the Porsches were among the first of many amazing vehicles to catch our eye here at the world-famous California event. Whether it is Singers, RUFs, or OG Porsches, we’re here for all of it.

Speaking of RUFs, our first stop at Monterey Car Week takes us to The Quail, where The Peninsula Hotel is hosting a reunion of Alois Ruf‘s take on the 911 on the exclusive greens of the golf club.

First up is the CTR 2017, the tribute to the original CTR “Yellowbird” that made RUF a legend on a cloudy German afternoon over three decades ago. The updated CTR, which is not based on any past or present Porsche 911, wears carbon fiber body panels, and is powered by 3.6-liter, water-cooled, twin-turbo flat-six rated at 700 horses and 649 lb-ft of torque. It’s also a rare bird: only 30 will ever be made, with each one costing around $872,000.

We happened upon the backsides of a black CTR2 (powered by the same twin-turbo flat-six used in the Group C-dominating Porsche 962), and a pair of super-green and yellow TurboRs (which were only made for the 1998 model year).

We also caught the visage of an attention-grabbing yellow CTR2. The CTR2 is, of course, famous for driving to, and then up, Pikes Peak in 1997 to take second and fourth overall in that year’s hill climb.

There were also a pair of CTR3s at the RUF reunion, including a 2018 CTR3 Clubsport, an evolution of the original CTR3 that debuted over a decade ago. This particular black beauty participated in the 2018 edition of The Quail Rally, a two-day, invite-only road trip through Monterey and the Pacific coast featuring 30 vintage and modern cars.

So many RUFs, so little time to take them all in.
