Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo races through the streets of San Francisco and Las Vegas in this installment.

It could be argued that no company does publicity stunts at well as Red Bull, so it should come as no surprise that the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing F1 team is driving across the United States with their race car. To be clear, driver Daniel Ricciardo is literally driving his F1 race car on some of the most famous public streets in America over the course of the summer of 2018, and in the video above, the tour kicks off in San Francisco, California.

If you follow the F1 series, you likely know that the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing race car is driven by Daniel Ricciardo and a bit past the halfway mark on the season, he sits fifth in the championship race. The series will make its only stop in the US in October, when the teams had to the Circuit of the Americas for the Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix, but Ricciardo is getting an early look at the US landscape.

In fact, he is working on getting a look at major American landmarks all across the country, as he blasts across the USA in his Aston Martin race car.

The Start of the Run

The video from the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing YouTube channel begins with Daniel Ricciardo looking over his high tech steering wheel before packing it up and heading out to the car. His Aston Martin race car is parked precariously in some random tunnel, but after firing up the race car and heading out of the tunnel, he begins his cross-country run in San Francisco.

According to the information on the video, the San Francisco is 4,178 miles from the end point of the run, and this first phase begins with the F1 racer rocketing around the trendy California city. From soaring across the Golden Gate Bridge, to bouncing along the rough city streets to a pit stop on the open road, the Aston Martin race car leaves its mark on San Fran.

On the Move

The second portion of this video shows the Aston Martin Red Bull race car traveling through Monument Valley, Utah. At 3,242 miles from the destination, this desolation locale provides the perfect venue for the race car to stretching its legs in the desert, after the team makes some quick adjustments to the chassis.

After racing across the desert, the Aston Martin race car descends upon Las Vegas, ripping through the Sin City streets before coming to rest at Bellagio, where Ricciardo climbs out, packs up his steering wheel and heads inside. Taking the steering wheel with the integrated engine controls is definitely one good way to make sure that no one goes for a joy ride in the car.

We don’t know when the trip across American will commence, but the first installation of this road trip video series provides some wicked footage of the Red Bull Aston Martin race car in action on the open road.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
