RUF Automobile Dares to Take Carbon Fiber Off-Road
Rodeo Concept car debuts as a luxury sports car for all terrain alongside RUF’s first production SCR.
German automaker RUF Automobile is known for their bespoke sports cars and custom Porsches. Their cars combine classic style and sporty performance, as well as the versatility to be a daily driver. Now they have added a few more unique rides to their lineup: the RUF Rodeo Concept and the first production RUF SCR.
The Rodeo Concept was inspired by the Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance and its founder Bruce Meyer. They also drew inspiration from designer Ralph Lauren and his Western Collection, as well as and RUF enthusiast, collector, and Texan Phillip Sarofim. But all these ideas blend together quite seamlessly.
The car features the same carbon fiber monocoque chassis as the CTR Anniversary and the SCR, but with four-wheel drive take on off-road challenges. It also has larger all-terrain tires, longer-travel suspension, and more. The Rodeo Concept can accommodate either a normally aspirated or turbo-charged RUF flat-six engine.
“When we began building our own automobiles it was all for the thrill of the drive,” said Estonia Ruf, marketing director of RUF Automobile. “The Rodeo Concept combines that passion for cars with the love of western culture – an appreciation I found while studying in Oklahoma, USA. This car is inspired by some of our favorite people and our love for the countryside.”
In addition to the Rodeo, the first production RUF SCR made its debut. The SCR features a 4.0-liter normally aspirated flat-six engine producing 510 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque.
The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox which gives the car the optimal mechanical feel. The car’s spoiler generates high downforce and keeps the RUF SCR stable at its top speed of 199 mph.
And it looks good.
One thing that stands out with all of RUF’s cars are the details. From the exquisite interior, to the jaw-dropping style, it is just gorgeous. And RUF especially puts a strong, and experienced emphasis on performance.
As the warm weather starts to approach, we would love to take the Rodeo off-road. A sexy sports car on the beach, or on the trails? Seems like the best of both worlds to us.
