Project Stork: This 1977 Porsche 911S Has an Awesome Backstory
Check out this new project Porsche, it’s part of the family. Literally.
Rennlist, a sister site of TeamSpeed, recently unearthed an old, aircooled 1977 Porsche 911S project car. This is no normal project car series, however, as managing editor Manuel Carrillo III has had this car in his family since before he was born. In point of fact, this is the car in which he was delivered home from the hospital, his “stork,” if you will. About 15 years ago, the car developed an exhaust smoking issue that caused the Carrillo family to park it. Last weekend, it was dragged out of the garage to see the sunlight for the first time since.
While the project’s trajectory has not truly begun, the car is now interned within the confines of the shop used by Haynes Manuals, so we know it’s in good hands. Having a nice shop with a proper lift and proper tools is critical to a well-done project. The car is a little rough around the edges, but the body appears to be mostly straight and true. The engine is all intact, if a bit too tired to be pressed back into regular service. Hopefully, this car will receive an engine refresh and be back on the streets in short order. From that point, the project should basically consist of an aesthetic refresh, which can be taken care of after it’s ready for regular weekend drives.

The car looks in a bit of a sad state right now, but you can follow along with the progress of the 911’s revival over on Rennlist. We’re hopeful that this car will be ready for some canyon carving and perhaps the odd track day or autocross in short order. It’s a Porsche with excellent history, familial provenance, and a huge dose of nostalgia.
Hopefully, one day soon, this Stork will really fly!
