Porsche M9X Engine Assembly

Rennlist forum members show how even a novice can rebuild a Porsche M9X series engine from spare parts to long block.

The vast majority of us likely have never even considered trying to rebuild an engine ourselves. We think that it’s far too difficult a task, one best left to the pros. And while that’s sometimes true, a group of incredibly smart folks from our brother site, Rennlist, are working to change this misconception. What started with classroom instruction has now morphed into a comprehensive DVD series that covers, step-by-step, the assembly of an M9X Porsche engine, from start to finish. And they promise it’s so detailed that even a novice can do it.

This breakthrough comes to us from three notable Porsche experts: Jake Raby, Charles Navarro, and Tony Callas. Each of whom obviously has deep roots and decades of experience working with these engines. Raby is the inventor and developer of IMS Retrofit and IMS Solution. He is also the founder and owner of Flat 6 Innovations. Along with Raby Engine Development, Raby Aircooled Technology, and The Knowledge Gruppe. Navarro is the owner and operator of LN Engineering, and Callas is a former racer who know runs the highly respected Callas Rennsport.

Focus On: Porsche M9X Engine Assembly

Together, they’ve put together the 20-hour, 15-part DVD collection dubbed Focus On: M9X Engine Assembly. The video begins with nothing but spare parts, and details how to put them together into an entire long block. The beauty of having this on video is that users can pause it as they go, carry out the steps detailed, then move on to the next step. And if you get lost midway, you can always rewind and watch it again.

And that’s not even the full extent of this offering. Raby has also published exhaustively detailed torque spec books for the Porsche 996 and 997. And since you’ll need a few special tools to get the job done, LN Engineering has also expanded their rental program. Now, you can borrow expensive specialty tools including the Faultless Wrist Pin Tool Kit, Faultless Supplemental Engine Assembly Tool Kit, and Rear Main Seal Tool.

It’s a genius idea, and one that promises to turn the average novice into an engine rebuilder. And by doing all this yourself, you’ll also save a lot of money in the process. So head over here to pick up your copy of the new DVD series, here for a 996 torque spec book, or here for the 997 version. You can also bundle all of these things together, along with any special tools you may need to rent. Before you know it, you’ll have that old Porsche of yours up and running like new again!
