Green Car Journal grants prestigious award to new grand touring model during Washington Auto Show.

Since 1992, Green Car Journal has been reviewing and awarding fuel efficient automobiles and impressive technologies that aim to reduce the impact of passenger cars on the environment. The publication recognizes, too, that consumers have other desires, such as safety and performance. While some enthusiasts think of “green” cars as slow, basic, or unattractive, auto manufacturers are increasingly developing faster, nicer hybrids with extended range. One such innovator is Karma Automotive, and on January 23, Karma’s new Revero GT was named Green Car Journal‘s 2020 Luxury Green Car of the Year. The award was announced on Jan. 23 at the Washington Auto Show, which runs through Feb. 2 in Washington, D.C.

“Karma will always be known for creating soul-stirring luxury electric vehicles that combine technology, environmental performance and world-class craftsmanship,” said Karma CEO Dr. Lance Zhou. “The Karma family is grateful that Green Car Journal recognizes Karma’s continued efforts to offering a luxury EV that provides the best of both worlds: extended EV capability without any range anxiety.”

Not Your Average Hybrid

Since 2018, the Revero has been completely reworked, with its weight being “reduced by more than 500 pounds”, and the combined power output increasing from 403 to 535 hp. These changes enable an impressive 4.5 second 0-60 mph time. These are numbers one is accustomed to seeing from a high-displacement sports sedan, not a hybrid. Also coming this year is the Revero GTS, a performance model which will supposedly achieve 0-60 mph in “under 4 seconds” with electronic torque vectoring and other technologies.

In bestowing the award, Green Car Journal described the 2020 Karma Revero GT as being unique among luxury models that strive to blend the best of luxury and a sporting character with the environmental benefits of an efficient electrified drivetrain.

Karma’s 2020 Revero product line is offered in two variants: the Revero GT, which is currently available through Karma’s North American retail network; and Revero GTS, a performance version beginning production in Q1 of 2020. With a base MSRP of $135,000, the Revero GT was designed and engineered from Karma’s global headquarters in Irvine, Calif.. All Reveros are created largely by hand at Karma’s Innovation & Customization Center in Moreno Valley, Calif.

“The Karma Revero GT epitomizes what a luxury car should be in a modern age,” added Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal. “The Revero GT features a compelling design with performance characteristics to match. Importantly, this extended-range electric sedan’s ability to drive up to 80 zero-emission miles on battery power alone and 360 miles overall suits all driving needs.”
