Porsche looks back before Le Mans return
For all you racing fans, Porsche has just released a quick video look-back highlighting the performances achieved in the 1971 edition of Le Mans, ahead of next year’s comeback. 1971 was the year when the famous 917 racer was constructed with a record setting, lightweight magnesium frame which weighed only 42 kg (92 lbs), allowing the racer to achieved a average speed of more than 222 km/h. Autoblog tells us the famous “Pink Pig” liveried 917 had sponsor Martini was so up in arms, they demanded all Martini branding be removed, but thankfully thousands of photographs have been taken, and it’s place in the Porsche Museum will let pinky live on forever for us all to cherish.
