Porsche 991 Turbo and Shelby Mustang Collide
Luckily both drivers weren’t seriously injured, but this crash could have been so much worse.Â
With oil all over the road, and pieces of expensive sports car strewn about like a wrecking yard, the scene is difficult to look at for car folks like us. The M62 carriageway between Leeds and Hull in England was closed in all lanes for five hours as cleanup crews were dispatched to the scene. The Shelby Mustang, while far worse for wear, still looks like a Mustang, for the most part. But the Porsche 911 Turbo appears to have been dropped from the top of a 100-story building. The front and rear of the car are smashed from impact with the Mustang and the guardrail. But worse than that, the engine was torn free from the car and came to a stop nearly 200 yards further down the road.
Luckily the guardrails held, and the cars didn’t get airborne over the top of them. The drivers were on a very high bridge at the time of impact, and would likely not have survived the drop. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, where they were treated with non-serious injuries.

It’s amazing that Porsche has engineered a specialty sports car with extreme speed capabilities with the safety to back that up. It’s part of what separates Porsche from everyone else.
Street racing of some kind was likely at play in this incident, but the exact circumstances of the crash are not known. Although one eyewitness told the DailyMail that the crashed cars “just kept spinning” and he “thought they were going to go into the river. As they hit the metal railings, the engine of the Porsche was 200 meters up the road.”
That’s some serious impact. Can you believe no one was seriously hurt?
