Porsche 951 Widebody Goes Under the Knife for SEMA 2019

Porsche 951 Widebody

Completely handbuilt with 100% custom parts, Widerstandsfahig’s latest Porsche might be their best one yet.

In the world of Porsche, those who choose to modify their cars are known as outlaws. This is because Porsche makes some pretty fantastic vehicles to begin with, of course. But for those who choose to mess with perfection, the rewards can be significant. And few who participate in this outlaw culture do it quite as well as a fellow named Brian Bergeron, founder of a company known as Widerstandsfahig. Bergeron’s love affair with building widebody Porsches started out with his own personal 944 and has quickly grown to multiple builds for a small handful of lucky customers.

Now, Bergeron is building his sixth such machine and documenting the process over at our brother site Rennlist. Difference is, this time he’s building the car not just for a customer, but also as his entry for Battle of the Builders at this year’s SEMA show. Merely getting accepted to compete in this hotly contested showdown is prestigious enough, of course. But judging by how well things are going so far, we think Bergeron has more than a solid shot at taking home the title.

This ambitious build involves 100% custom designed and molded body panels, which are part of Bergeron’s new Project Nine collection. The master body man obviously took his time measuring and test fitting the custom over fenders to the vintage Porsche body, which is nothing new. After all, Bergeron’s calling card is fit, finish, and attention to detail. And that’s quite obvious early on with this particular Porsche.

In addition to the fenders, the chin spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler are all custom fabricated. It’s a tedious process, for sure, but when it’s done, this 951 will look like nothing else on the road. Once Bergeron was finished cutting, fitting, measuring, and fitting again, he began the bodywork process. Which, as we all know, is quite time consuming.

Regardless, Bergeron hammered away at this Porsche and made amazing progress in a short period of time. He also managed to fit the car with a custom roll cage and smooth out the engine bay. And those big fenders aren’t just for show, either. They’re big enough to make room for massive 18×12″ tires and 335-series tires.

Even though it’s a SEMA build, Bergeron’s 951 isn’t just for show, either. He regularly autocrosses his own 944, and all his builds are quite functional. And that’s just another reason to root for him in this year’s Battle of the Builders. So be sure and head over here to stay tuned as this amazing ride nears the finish line. You can bet it’ll be well worth the wait!
