LaFerrari Engine Goes Up for Sale on Ebay for a Ridiculous Price

A whopping $800,000 will buy you a Ferrari V8 online.

Before you throw away your computer and retire from the internet for the day after reading the title of this post and price of this engine, give us a chance to provide some context. When LaFerrari was released to public acclaim back in 2013, it literally refined what was possible in performance engineering for automobiles. It defined a new title of sports vehicles, because the title “supercar” wasn’t enough: hypercar. With a hybrid powertrain from their Formula One program and next-gen tech in full display, it really set a new standard for the brand as it was literally the definition of what a Ferrari was and what a Ferrari could be. LaFerrari would be the first of what became known as The Holy Trinity alongside the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1.

Fast forward to 2016, a LaFerrari sold for $7 million dollars at auction as a collective effort from Ferrari to aid victims of the 2016 Italian earthquake. In 2017, the last model of LaFerrari Aperta was sold for a record $10 million dollars, the most expensive auction of any 21st century vehicle. Considering that the price of the car was originally around $1.4 million dollars, that’s a hell of an increase over a short period of time. Now let’s look at 2019 LaFerrari pricing. You can buy the engine and only the engine out of one on Ebay for $800,000 dollars.

LaFerrari

According to this very blank and undescriptive sale post, the engine is from a 2017 LaFerrari and it only has 20 miles on it. Which either means it was literally never driven or crashed immediately. We wish we knew, but to say we are short on information about this particular engine and its life would be an understatement. The engine is located in Florida, but the shipping is free (an obvious bargin). There are three pictures associated with the posting and all of them are terrible. Now let’s talk the pricing.

Yes, the price of this engine is set at $800,000, but you can make an offer via Ebay for any price you think is reasonable. What do we think is reasonable? Definitely not $800,000. It doesn’t matter what engine it is and how amazing or valuable the car is, it can’t be worth that amount of money. You could buy three used extremely low mile 488 GTB’s for the price of this engine. You could also buy 300+ 2019 ND Mazda Miatas and give one to each of your friends and still have hundreds of Miatas left over. It’s just not worth it. Also as a note to the seller, if you expect somebody to spend $800,000 on anything, you better give us more than 26 words worth of information (you’re welcome for the tip).
