Evolution E-Types, Electrifi to unveil prototype E-Type near summer’s end, accepting orders now for late 2019 delivery on.

Transforming classics into electric vehicles isn’t unusual, whether it a personal project like Neil Young’s ‘LincVolt’ Lincoln Continental, a small company like Zero Labs building an electric first-gen Bronco, or or an established player such as Jaguar, who plans to take the gorgeous E-Type body into the 2020s with its E-Type Zero in the coming months.

Turns out Jaguar isn’t the only one who wants to make an electric E-Type. Two small firms, England’s Evolution E-Types and Ireland’s Electrifi, announced they will build such a car, with the first prototype due near the end of summer before production models leave for their new homes near the end of 2019.

“We are looking to the future, and we recognise that electric is the way forward,” said Evolution founder Uryk Dmyterko. “Our partnership with Electrifi means we can concentrate on building the best Jaguar E-Type available and utilise Electrifi’s already highly developed and tested electric technology.”

The partnership’s version of the electric E-Type includes an all-aluminum body (in roadster form at first, with a coupe to come), plus an electric motor limited to 450 horses good for a zero to 60 time of under four seconds, and a top speed of 165 mph. The motor can be replaced with an ICE unit should the owner tire of charging, as the E-Type is a conversion-based build.

“With this partnership we are helping breath life back into these classic cars by building modern and sustainable technology into the very heart of cars for the twenty first century,” said Electrifi chief Norman Crowley. “Working with Evolution to build the Jaguar E-Type brings us a step closer to changing the way people drive in the future.”

The expected price for the electric E-Type conversion is around $1.08 million when it hits the market. That’s hefty change for most of us, but we think there’s a few millionaires out there who want to combine a classy body with the electric future to take up this offer.
