Luft 7 2020

Luft 7 brings air-cooled Porsche passion to tobacco country for first time with multiple epic road trips planned to get you there.

Porsche fans have more than their fair share of excellent manufacturer-specific shows to attend each year. But Luftgekühlt, well, it’s probably the best, at least if you’re an air-cooled junkie. The brainchild of two-time Le Mans class winner Patrick Long and noted Southern California creative director Howie Idelson, Luft changes locations each and every year as well. This year, it’s making a drastic move from Hollywood’s Universal Studios lots to Durham, North Carolina on May 29-31, in fact.

That creates a big opportunity for those living out west, of course. And Luft 7 will in fact feature a massive cross-country road trip. Organizers are also working on travel plans for those who live north and south of the Raleigh-Durham area. Which adds an extra element of fun. Details at the moment are rather scant, but you can sign up here and receive updates as soon as they’re available.

Regardless of how you arrive at Luft 7, we’d highly suggest attending in some capacity. Long known as the definitive air-cooled Porsche showcase, Luft features everything from the Pre-A 356 to the 993 911 and everything in between. These gritty, soulful machines are a great match for the current state of Durham, too. After all, the booming metropolis is still quite proud of its Southern charm.

Luft 7 kicks off Saturday night with a pre-party before the real show takes place Sunday. There, you’ll soak in the finest vintage Porsche machines in a wholly unique and artful setting. Luft always provides a finely curated list of content, celebrating the culture that makes air-cooled Porsches so special today. And it’s always at the top of our list in terms of must-see events, year in and year out.

The beautiful thing about Luftgekühlt is that it’s constantly changing and evolving. And yet, the main focus never wavers. Air-cooled Porsches evoke a passion that few other mechanical things can match. And even though they’ve been out of production for 30+ years now, that passion has only gotten stronger. So why not celebrate it in such a unique way, even if you have to travel cross-country to witness it?
