Learn How to Drive Fast With Aston Martin and GQ Magazine
Driving a fast car is easy these days, but it can still be very tricky to properly drive a car fast. Aston Martin understands this, and they hosted a little class at the Millbrook testing facility (the place they filmed the famous Aston Martin flipping scene for Casino Royale), and GQ British attended. The advice they provided may be first nature to anyone who has spent time on a track, but it never hurts to refresh, and we can maybe teach the new guys a thing or two.
The basic idea here is pretty simple: be smooth. There are tips on everything from how to look ahead and anticipate road changes to balancing a car’s weight using the throttle. The most useful tip for me when I was first getting into competitive driving was the idea of “only once.” Basically, you should only do something once in a turn. If you brake, make it halfway through the turn, and then brake again, you did something wrong. One braking maneuver, one steering input, and one throttle application should be all you ever need to navigate a corner.
