Lamborghini Aventador S LP740-4 Hits the Drag Strip

By -

Aventador takes some losses, but it sounds incredible while storming down the track.

The video above comes to us from the Gumbal YouTube channel and it features a Lamborghini Aventador S LP740-4 working out on the drag strip. The V12-powered Raging Bull is a rolling work of art, screaming down the track as it wins and loses races against some incredible competition.

Aventador S LP740-4

The Aventador S LP740-4 is the highest-performance version of the range-topping Lamborghini. The 6.2-liter V12 tucked under the rear engine cover delivers 730 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque, making this one of the most powerful road cars in the world. Best off all, a dual-clutch transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system work together to put all of that power to the ground, making this one crazy-quick supercar, even at nearly 3,900 pounds.

Competition

The video above showcases the Aventador S taking on a handful of competitors on the drag strip, including a pair of Audi RS3 Sportbacks, an Audi R8 V10 Plus and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Aventador Vs RS3 Passenger Side

The RS3 Sportbacks each come with 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, with an advanced all-wheel-drive system and a curb weight of roughly 3,329 pounds. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS has a 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque, rear-drive and a curb weight of just over 3,100 pounds and the R8 V10 Plus has 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque from a Lamborghini V10, along with an advanced all-wheel-drive system and a curb weight of about 3,650 pounds.

So, while the Lamborghini has far more power than the competitors, it also weighs a fair deal more.

Hitting the Track

After roughly 70 seconds of footage of the Aventador S at rest, the V12-powered monster hits the track. The first competitor is an Audi RS3 Sportsback, but it is barely a challenge. The second race was also against an RS3, but in that second race, the Audi got a bunch better start and the Lamborghini failed to close the gap before the finish line.

Next, the LP740-4 lined up with the 911 GT3 RS, but when the rear-drive Porsche smoked the tires shortly after the start, the Aventador got the easy win.

Finally, the Aventador S takes on an Audi R8 V10, which is powered by a Lamborghini drivetrain. The Audi gets out first and while the LP740-4 closes as the two rocket down-track, the R8 gets the win.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
