How Long Will It Take This Race Car to Get a Parking Ticket?

You can’t get a ticket if you don’t have a windscreen, right?

This can only be described as answering a question no one has bothered to ask. Donut Media decided to place an old Indycar at an expired meter to see exactly how long it would take to get a ticket.

Donut Media is based in Los Angeles, so we have to assume they picked a road close by to pull this prank. In the video below, they roll the Indycar into position, right in front of an expired meter. Then they start the clock.

As you’d expect, the 1977 IndyCar — sponsored by Evil Knievel — generates quite a few photos from folks passing down the sidewalk. It even stops traffic at times. Despite all of the attention it gets, over an hour passes by with no ticket. Finally, parking enforcement shows up, but they seem completely confused by the Offy-powered oval racer.

Pre-planned, a man wearing a racing suit and helmet leaps into action. He claims to be from England, and that he didn’t know about the meter, and can move the car right away. With the threat of towing looming, he then offers “English money” to pay the fine. Thankfully, Donut Media are allowed to push it out-of-the-way and onto a waiting trailer.

So how long did the Indycar last? Well, you don’t have to sit through the whole video, but it did manage an incredible 72 minutes without getting a ticket. We’ll remember that the next time we just hop into a store “real quick.”
