Ferrari’s Display at Goodwood Showcased New Models for First Time
In the U.K. were the FXX K EVO, the 812 Superfast, the Ferrari 488 Pista, and the Portofino.
Ferrari always has an amazing presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and this year was no different. Attendees were able to see four new models, all driven in anger for the first time in what Ferrari has dubbed their “UK dynamic debut.” And for Ferrari, those models ranged from mild to wild. On the softer end of the spectrum was Ferrari’s open top Portofino, and on the side of un-censored speed was the FXX K Evo. Also included in the quartet was the 812 Superfast and the 488 Pista. Putting the FXX K Evo, FXX and 599XX Corsa Clienti cars through their paces were the company’s own trusted factory GT drivers, Davide Rigon, Olivier Beretta, and Alessandro Pier Guidi.
Now obviously, the Corsa Clienti program offers the highest access to Ferrari cars that money can buy. Cars that bear the XX insignia, as well as storied F1 cars are available to drive, but for the rest of us, the 488 Pista is one really impressive machine. The reason we say that is because the 812 has the horsepower, but won’t be as fast, and the Portofino is more suited to a slow cruise than a track assault. That makes the 488 Pista the one to have for speed, backed up by the debut of the 488 Pista Piloti which is homologated for just about every major GT racing series world-wide.
It wouldn’t be an event without classic Ferraris, however, and vintage racers like the tiny V6 powered shark nosed Dino 156 early F1 racers, along with V12, flat-12, V10, and V8 Formula 1 cars covering every era of F1 racing. The road cars are just as important too, with GTOs and the iconic Daytona roaring up the hillclimb. For any enthusiast, it was a sight to behold.
