Ferrari ‘Art Car’: Hell Yeah or Nah?

2008 Ferrari was created as a drive-able art project by a noted artist…but would you want this car?
We were going through the more unusual items up for auction at RM Sotheby’s when we came across this unusual Ferrari that definitely caught our eye. The 2008 Ferrari F430 is called the ‘art car’ and was created by pop and graffiti artist Ben Levy for Miami’s Art Basel art show in 2015.
To create the look, Levy first took his cue from a Ferrari challenge car. He wrapped the car, then painted it using a canvas of colored and neon words such as “boom”, “hope”, “cash”, “king”, and others. Also painted on the sides is a cartoon mouse (we think, it might be a rat), and line work that wraps around the chassis.
The “art car” is being sold at auction as is expected to sell at $120,000-$160,000. The Ferrari is sweet, there’s no denying that. At first glance, it reminded us of a camouflage car often found in spy shots. But as for the design…well, it seems that it is an acquired taste. It is interesting, and the design itself is aesthetically pleasing and reminds us of Banksy, but it might be better suited for a canvas than a car. It is definitely making a statement, but we’re not sure we want to drive that statement around.
What do you think: Hell yeah, or nah?
