Ferrari and Alfa Romeo Among Finalists at Peninsula Classics
Ferrari and Alfa Romeo are getting the recognition they deserve through the Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Awards presented in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The ceremony will take place during the Monterey Car Week, with the winner being announced August 16th at a private dinner. The judges are curated from some of the most knowledgeable and noted minds in the industry, like Ralph Lauren, Gordon Murray, Ian Callum, Fabio Filippini, Jay Leno, and Nick Mason.
The 1965 Ferrari 166 P (206 SP Dino 0834, to be specific) pictured above is one of the finalists, having won Best of Show at the Cavallino Classic. It was run as a factory car by Ferrari and has a storied racing pedigree.
Representing Alfa Romeo is a 1968 Tipo 33 Stradale. Stradale — quite literally a direct translation of “street” in Italian — is the road-going version of the Tipo 33/2 race car. Its diminutive 2-liter V8 cranks out an impressive 240 horsepower, and was meant to showcase Alfa Romeo’s direct connection to motorsport through their street cars. The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering voted this Tipo 33 as Best in Show in 2015.
There are six contenders in total for the Peninsula Award, but understandably our vote leans towards these two gorgeous Italian works of art. Which one would be your pick?
