Doug DeMuro Takes a Closer Look at the Bentley Bentayga
There’s a certain appeal that comes with a vehicle that has a price tag of $250,000. The Bentley Bentayga falls into that price bracket, so what exactly makes it so special? Doug DeMuro investigates exactly why.
If customization has any sort of intrinsic value, then at least a few thousand dollars are justified. With dozens of exterior and interior color combinations, there’s rarely two Bentaygas that will ever be the same. Opt for the ultra luxury Breitling clock option, and you’ll have only one of four made each year with that option. But you’ll have to add another $160,000 to the price tag.
But of course the real showpiece is the engine and performance. A turbo charged 12-cylinder motor with 600 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque resides under the hood, giving understated performance. As with the rest of the Bentley lineup, the luxurious and quiet ride is to be expected. However, the Bentley isn’t alone in the ultra-luxury SUV segment. Land Rover has been the leader in this segment and still offers superior off-road capabilities. The Bentley is not apologizing for being a road car though, and offers better athleticism, and arguably better road manners.
