Czinger 21C Delivers Unbelievable Performance & Driving Experience

Stunning 3D-printed Czinger 21C’s design is striking albeit unusual, but the lighting fast hypercar’s performance is out of this world.

American car start-up, Czinger made headlines with its 3-D printed hybrid sports car- the 21C. The company hails its offering as a technological marvel and claims that its performance can compete with SSC and Koenigsegg offerings.
Inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird design, the car’s design will definitely grabs your attention. The similarities between the two are limited to the position of the driver and passenger seats. The central driving position of the hybrid hypercar emulates the cabin of an SR-71 and enhances its handling.

For the uninitiated, the 21C’s design and technology hark back to Divergent 3D’s Blade supercar that made its debut back in 2015. The 21C is the brainchild of Kevin Czinger, who is also the CEO of Divergent. Unlike the Blade, however, the powertrain of 21C was developed in-house.

The hybrid hypercar is fitted with a 2.9-liter flat-plane crankshaft V8 and an 800-volt electrical system, similar to the ones used in F1 cars. The hybrid powertrain is made up of two electric motors, both of which are located on the front axle. The V8 motor is located behind the cockpit. The car weighs less than 2734 lbs, and its drivetrain produces 1,233 HP of maximum power.

The preproduction model is equipped with the seven-speed sequential transmission with straight-cut gears, and you’d have to use a hand clutch to get off the line, which is something most drivers aren’t familiar with. The car also gets a yoke-steering to ensure that driver has his/her hand firmly placed in the ideal position. According to industry reports, the handling of 21C seems to be right on point.

The unusual seating is another thing drivers will need to get used to. The 21C, however, picks up speed easily, which makes sense. Czinger is obsessed with speed, and the transmission makes it easy to switch between gears.
According to Czinger, the 21C only takes 1.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH. The 21C also set a new record for a production car at Laguna Seca. The hypercar clocked 1:25:44, beating the previous record-holder, McLaren Senna’s time (1:27.62) by over two seconds.
