Canepa Offering Beautiful in Brown Dino
The don’t-call-it-a-Ferrari Dino 246 GT is arguably among the most beautifully designed sports cars of all time. With flowing lines, simple styling treatments, and a shaped-by-nature body, the 246 has aged quite gracefully. While not the most powerful car to leave Maranello, the Dino’s 2.4 liter V6 is quite sonorous, and provides enough power for spirited and engaging driving. Add in the stable and neutral handling characteristics of a mid-engine platform, and this was an excellent sporting automobile, especially true in the early 1970s.
What’s more, this particular Dino was delivered to its original owner in a glorious shade of brown, Marrone Dino Metallizzato to be precise. Combined with a Sabbia tan interior palette, this Dino presents quite nicely. The car was delivered new to the U.S. and spent most of its life in Malibu, California, likely leading a pampered life of oceanside drives and canyon cruises.
A recent restoration was undertaken by Fast Cars LTD of Redondo Beach, and was completed in 2015. The 246 appears in photos to be among the nicest restored examples on the market right now, and could potentially be an excellent addition to any F-car collector’s stable. Just look at that engine compartment, if you wish to be impressed.
While this example was not equipped with the “Chairs” or the “Flares” options that collectors revere today, I almost find it preferable as such. With a subdued and gorgeous color like Marrone, the flares and wider wheels would seem out of place, while the Daytona-style seats would be too racy for the interior aesthetic of such a beautiful car.
This car has recently been added to the Canepa vintage car sales, and more information can be found by visiting their website.
