Aston Martin Vulcan No. 11 Will Put You Into a Purple Haze

It is a fact, not an opinion, that a deep purple is one of the greatest car colors ever (fight me). So when I saw this Aston Martin Vulcan, one of only 24 being made, I nearly slipped into a car coma. In a bit of a shocking move, Vulcan No. 11 popped up on the Mecum site and is set to be auctioned off in Monterey during Concours week from August 18 through August 20.

It’s hard to define exactly what the Vulcan is, because it’s track-only and so rare. If it were a road-going vehicle, its original price tag north of $2 million and the 820-horsepower, 7.0-liter V12 would certainly put it into supercar, maybe even hypercar, territory. But because you can’t drive it around on normal roads, it’s basically a strict racecar. Which seems appropriate, considering it was developed with the Aston Martin Racing department and has a higher top speed than the Aston Martin Le Mans GT3 racer.

Of course, the naturally aspirated engine is not the sole reason that’s possible. The list of features for this thing will make your head spin. Its carbon fiber tub is sourced from the One-77, it has an Xtrac 6-speed sequential gearbox and a Sachs competition clutch, Cosworth handled the ECU tuning, the side exhaust is iconel and titanium, it has a magnesium casing torque tube driveshaft with carbon fiber propeller shaft, anti-dive and anti-lift suspension geometry that also prevents squat, carbon ceramic Brembo brakes, and an 11-position adjustable Bosch M4 motorsport anti-lock braking system.

You’re likely looking at at least a $3 million hit, if you’re wanting to buy it. There’s already been one Vulcan for sale, and that was listed for $3.4.
