TeamSpeed Powerboat Intro

Summer is here, and if you’re into powerboats, now is the perfect time to talk shop in the Team Speed forums!

What does summer mean for you? Seeing lots of Lamborghinis and Astons hit the city streets or head out on the highway? Finally being able to bring out your finest rides into the glorious sunshine? Or, perhaps, picking up a new McLaren of your own to take the marina on your way to a day of smooth sailing?

Or, perhaps, sailing isn’t the right word here. Perhaps, the right word is speed. High speed on the high seas in the luxury powerboat of your dreams. Well, we at Team Speed are all about speed, land and sea. And since the summer is here, we just happen to have our own Team Speed Marine sub-forum, split into two sections: one for luxury cruisers and yachts, and one for powerboats. So, come on aboard the S.S. Team Speed Performance Boat, and get ready to talk shop about your favorite powerboats!

Powerplay Cigarette Boat

Here’s an example we’ve dusted off from the sub-forum. Back in 2011, Blackrifle talked about his rainbow-tastic PowerPlay 33-foot cigarette boat with a custom-built trailer to haul it to the ramp for a day of oceanic destruction. According to him, it had a “3 man bolster, full race setup” backed by a staggered pair of Mercury Racing 500 motors good for around 1,000 hard-charging seahorses.

The PowerPlay was his boat until he sold it a few years prior to starting the thread, admitting he missed having her around. Of course, he mentioned he’d buy a 38-foot Cigarette next time around (like this 38-foot Top Gun model available now). When asked how well it ran in the water, he says “the boat would run 84 in 5′-7′ pretty well,” adding that “it was a seriously tough boat” that ran “very level with the staggered motors.”

The Woodys at Lake Tahoe

You won’t just find boats owned by forum members on our performance boat sub-forum, of course. Sometimes, there’s tons of cool events our members will write about, like the time hundreds of wooden powerboats gathered between California and Nevada at Lake Tahoe for the 2008 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance.

Featuring tons of photos from forum member gociggie31, seeing the wooden beauties floating for all to see shows us how far we’ve come, how classy the boats are, and, of course, gets our hearts pumping for the high seas, no matter how small they are.

2008 Los Angeles Boat Show

Speaking of shows, don’t think our forums hibernate in the winter. Just ask Ara, who attended the 2008 Los Angeles Boat Show to check all of the cool boats ready to pull into port, and brought back a few photos to share.

All of those boats and trailers waiting to make summer happen in a big way. Don’t you just wish you were there to admire the beauty and craftsmanship (and price tags) of these majestic monsters? Better yet, you could add to the collection with photos from your local boat show!

Hydrofest on Lake Chelan

Among all of the powerboats racing across the seas, the hydroplane is king. Forum member Dr. T was a few hours east of Seattle at Lake Chelan, Washington to catch the 2010 Lake Chelan HydroFest, and all of the leviathans chasing down the big catch.

Just imagine what it must have been like to watch these high-speed sea serpents throw up big rooster tails of water high into the sky, gliding across the water as elegantly as as a figure skater setting up for a triple axel jump. As Dr. T himself says, you had to be there to experience the magic of the hydroplane that day.

Lake Havasu Poker Run

And how can we forget all the fun you can have once you’re out on the water? Case in point: poker runs, like the one at Lake Havasu, Arizona GoFastKindaGuy attended in 2010. So much color! Tons of sun! The scent of suntan lotion in the air!

Boating is a way of life, and our Performance Boats forum has tons of life in spades, from ship to shore, and then some more. All you need is some high-octane fuel for your supercharged big block, a few life jackets, and smooth waters to carry you into the sunset.

The Woodys at Lake Tahoe

We have 22 pages worth of threads about high-performance marine warfare in our Performance Boats forum, the earliest dating back to 2008. We’d also love to inject new life into our Team Speed Marine sub-forum, so if you have a boat you want to talk about, are looking for advice on getting the most of your performance boat, or need to keep up on the latest happenings on the high seas, then pull into our marina pronto!
