Mercedes-AMG GT S and Audi R8 V10 Take It to the Runway
Because a normal drag strip just isn’t big enough for these two Goliaths, let’s take the action to the runway.
Could there possibly be a better way to ring in the new year than by watching two of the best German supercars in the world go head to head in an all-out drag race? Probably, but who cares! On today’s menu, we’ve got two current Goliaths in the go-fast category: the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S and the Audi R8 V10… going full blast down a runway. Yes, please.
An interesting race by any comparison, but especially so for a few reasons. First, this is the non-plus R8, so it doesn’t pass the 600-horsepower mark. Instead it makes due with 553 bhp — shame, I know. However, that is still good enough to best the Benz by 43 ponies, giving it the inherent advantage.
The GT S is also 50 kilograms — or roughly 100 pounds — heavier than the Audi, again giving the edge to the R8. On top of that, the R8’s power goes to all four wheels, versus the Benz’s two. So it would seem like the R8 is the clear favorite.
I won’t spoil the ending, but let’s just say things get pretty one-sided pretty quickly.
