An Incorrect but Interesting Tale of Car Design Going From Chiseled to Curvaceous.

Vox Media has a pretty phenomenal track record of taking complex news stories and social issues, and condensing them down into easy-to-understand videos. Sometimes, however, they get things incredibly wrong.

If you have any real knowledge about car design and aerodynamics, truth alarms will sound while watching the video below, about how modern cars are smoother than their older counterparts. But rather than complain about all the things Vox got wrong, let’s instead take some time to look at some of our favorite square supercars from the ’70s and ’80s, which are now rounder than the back of a Kardashian.

Ferrari is the first and most obvious choice to lead the march from hard angles to supple radii. The 308 GTB (and later the 512 Testarossa) show off some of the flattest edges this side of a barn convention. But move to the modern era, and we have the smooth styling of the 458 Italia. Lamborghini is another great choice, thanks to the Countach. But the design of the new Huracan is still fairly angular, compared to some other cars on sale today.

When it comes to automotive beauty, it is hard to beat Aston Martin. The company has produced some of the most memorable and elegant designs in the industry. That said, there were some seriously square and boring machines that arrived from the British marque. My mind is instantly drawn to the Lagonda and the old Vanquish. Fast forward a few decades, and the new Vanquish features a shape so swoopy and sultry that it makes you feel a little vulgar.

What do you guys think? Can you name some cars and nameplates that produced the flattest and sharpest cars a few decades ago? What are your favorite modern cars that have jumped on this rotund bandwagon?
