Phil Hill’s Ferrari 250 GTO Set Free in its Natural State

Arguably the world’s most famous racing Ferrari, the GTO, is featured in this stripped back video of Derek Hill driving one at speed on some lovely roads. There’s no voice-over, no background music, just the wonderful tones of an Italian V12 being driven properly. This is a raw un-edited snippet from Petrolicious‘s feature about the GTO, The Ferrari 250 GTO Speaks For Itself.

In that documentary, Derek Hill, son of factory Ferrari driver Phil Hill, goes in depth about the 1964 250 GTO and its racing history, and he explains just why these cars are so lusted after. Not to mention so expensive.

Of the 36 produced, all the 250 GTOs still exist, with varied and interesting history behind them. This one is of course special to Derek, as his father drove it throughout 1964 in international sports car racing, which was a shift from his stint as a Formula 1 wheel-man for the red Italian cars.

For us, this video will continue to test the audio system, be played numerous times, and will never get old. It is perhaps the closest any mortal will ever come to experiencing the Ferrari 250 GTO.
