Good occasions to buy a watch?
I got my first watch as a gift from my Godfather after I graduated university. Its a Tag Aquaracer automatic that i wear daily.
Yesterday I found out I made partner at the firm where I work and I will also be having my first child within the next month.
I like the idea of having a watch that is tied to specific occasions. What bothers me though is the buying it for myself part which feels a little selfish. Should I be buying one for somenone else to mark the occasion instead (ie my Dad)?
Anyways, i would like to stay in the Tag family as my wife also has a Diamond Link and i've always had a soft spot for black face, orange dial, rubber strap Carrera's. They go for around 2.5k on ebay. I feel that i might regret buying another Tag that is only worth a few more hundred than mine, but i haven't fallen in love with any other watch to justify spending more, other than an AP ROO which is still a few years away.
I'm also tempted to buy another car, but that will be a separate thread when the time comes
Comments / suggestions?

Any thinkable occasion is a good watch buying occasion ^^.
I don't think you should buy anyone else a watch to mark an occasion in your life.
I would go out of the TAG fam though, since I believe that an 'occasion' watch should atleast last a lifetime...And in this case, I would buy a watch that I can later give to my child. So they have a watch from their birthyear, also from their dad, that will make that watch very very special. So you should get something that'll last.
BTW congratulations on these various events, but ofcourse, the most on your soon te be born child.

Occasions are great and typically many will pop up in a lifetime. After aquiring some omegas my dad commented how much he liked them. I was surprised. He was never a watch guy or the type to spend more than $20 on one.
For fathers day last year I got him a nice aqua terra. It was the most special moment we've had as father and son, and we've not always been close. He wears it proudly and it sure was the best watch/occasion purchase I have made.
Oh, and upgrade from a tag.
