The Gentleman's Thread: Buying Your Wife Stuff
#95
been going round and round, considered watches but that is more me so came back to jewellery
van cleef & arpels, long necklace, 20 motifs
diff variations so my wife has to go and try on and decide for herself
settling on them again because damn those guys are goooood
browsing the AD or online and i can definitely see how women go NUTS for this sort of thing.. way easier than cars/watches for us if you think about it!
i have been to and seen MANY MANY independent stuff loaded with carats or diff precious metals, but i have concluded that VCA is the Patek for women

Very nice choice boursachi!
I picked up a Van Cleef & Arpels piece for my wife a couple years ago - unfortunately she doesn't wear it much anymore outside special occasions.
Interesting mention of Patek. I'm sure you're aware but VCA under the Richemont umbrella with Cartier, IWC, Panerai JLC etc.
A push present is on my radar with the baby due in September. My wife is impossible to buy for and always picks out her gifts ahead of time. Due to the timing she wants to stack the push present with her birthday and anniversary gift! I'm thinking it's going to be upgraded diamond earrings and she'll save the ones she has now to give to our daughter sometime down the road.

Haha just saw this.
Well technically I don't "give" her money, but I set the budget and keep track of all the finances etc, so yes I let her know when she can buy stuff etc, kind of like you and your wife only reversed lol.

may i ask what piece from vca you got her back then?
you're absolutely right, vca is part of the big group but to me at least as a buyer and not wearer they kept their identity and the craftsmanship does come off as top notch; much like the much higher end cartier/bvlgari stuff, and not the 'entry level' pieces.
the analogy to Patek is based on that, i can spot a patek even without knowing the model just like i can spot vca jewellery on a chick even when not knowing the line.
hey, marketing those super brands must be the awesome-st job in the world!
this is the 1st time i 'notify' my wife of an upcoming present, and it happened on coincidence when i went to change a strap on my watch that we were in the same place as the VCA boutique so she went in and was interested in a watch there as well as a watch in AP; we discussed it and i chimed in, hopefully helping her realize she is more into jewellery and that if she wants a watch then she should get a "timepiece" and not a jeweller-based time-teller
btw i love what you mention of handing the jewellery down to your daughter
i feel the exact same way and have made it clear to my wife that this is what i wish for as well, and was part of the motivation for everything i bought her
