Help with selling my Patek overseas
Hi guys,
Would just like your input on something. I am selling my Patek Philippe Aquanaut and this guy from Sinagpore wrote to me asking to buy it. He asked no questions about the condition, price nor did he ask for pictures, he solely wanted me to calculate shipping costs and give my bank details so he could transfer me the full listing amount.
He said bank wire would be tricky but he gladly would ship a check I could cash in at my bank. I told him I'd wait for the check to clear before sending the watch and he said that it would be fine, but it all just sounds a little fishy to me.
What kind of experience do you guys have from this? Should I back away from the sale? What is the worst you think could happen?
I have another safe buyer in my hometown, what do you think I should do?
Best,
Hampus

I hate to post something here from another forum, but give this a read. Gil (Stryke) wrote this up:

I also buy and sell about 30 watches a year (nowhere near what Gil does), and I would NEVER sell to someone without 1-speaking to them, 2-emailing back and forth a few times, 3-getting pictures to them and receiving feedback, and 4-getting a payment from them via PayPal and having it clear.
Only then would I sell them the watch. Bank wires are NOT safe in my opinion because they can be reversed. Once the money is in your PayPal account, IT IS IN THERE. They would have to take a lot of steps to get it back. Good luck.

Sell locally, save yourself the trouble.
