Patek Philippe Situation
Hey all,
Recently my pops purchased himself a new watch. He was in the market for a while and finally settled for a Patek 5140 in yellow gold with a white face.

After 3 months of ownership, he now realizes that it is too difficult to see the dials. He loves the features and such of the watch but is getting a bit tired of having to squint his eyes everytime he hasto check the time. The white back and gold hands flush a bit too much together so the verdict is to get rid of the watch.
Browsing online yesterday, i fell in love with the 5140 in the same color combo as his but with the brown face.

I'm curious for the same price range, what are some other watches in similar style do you guys recommend. We have looked at a few Blancpains and some Vacherons...
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys

Patek perpetuals are really difficult to see. I just sold a 3940P because I dont have mouse eyes.
Personally, I love the 3940 and its variants - I'm not the biggest fan of the 5140 as I take issue with the big/small font of the date ring - but, the Rose gold and Plat versions with brown and blue dial are really nice in the metal.
Try the 5159 perpetual - it has windows and a retrograde date hand. I find this to be a more legible option.
From other manufacturers - if you want a perpetual there are plenty - but If you want a Patek, then you must have a Patek.
For this money - I'd also consider a 5960P or R - great watch - chronograph coupled with Annual Calendar. The "standard" production annuals - the new 5296 to me, is the cleanest looking watch produced. In WG is the perfect business/suit watch and in RG is just gorgeous. They hit a home run with this watch - but, you have to want and/or be happy with an annual.
If you would consider other brands - my dad is a big IWC guy - he is a big man, and loves his big watches. He has a few IWC Portuguese Perpetuals - easy and legible - and has the new Davinci perpetual which is also relatively easy to see.
The UN - Michaelangelo is another great perpetual calendar - but you have to want a UN. They are great watches, the only movement that can be set forwards and backwards and all functions can be set by the crown. You can't break this bugger. That's why I got my dad one as his first "real" watch.
There are so many watches out there - If you wanted my vote - Buy a Lange, Journe or AP - Pateks, while I own plenty and have sold off plenty more, They just dont speak to me the way some other brands do.
Good luck! PM me with any particular questions.
Best,

I hate fakes - Hate them with a passion. All they do is cost honest folks money. How would you like your IP infringed upon?
Sorry - you just hit a nerve.

The brown face watch you posted is rose gold, but check out JLC, Breguet and A. Lange & Sohne. Lots of stuff out there in this range, he can get a very solid piece from almost any maker you desire.
