JLC Master Compressor Diving Chronograph

The other day I swung by a local shop and this caught my eye. It was gorgeous and I had to try it on. Pink Gold with Articulated Rubber strap. Price tag was $24k. I'm no watch expert... but this thing felt and looked amazing to me. I question whether or not it's a smart buy. I have a Cartier Roadster (my second one, first was stolen), Rolex Submariner, Omega Constellation (it was my first watch, a gift ), and a Rado (which I rarely wear).

I've been looking to expand and get another nice watch to wear. My initial intentions were perhaps a Panerai - which is why I stopped at the store. I tried on the Big Pilot - LOVED, and then this thing caught my eye and fell in love. Then I tried on the Panerai and all I could think about was how amazing the JLC was.

I didn't want to spend so much on a watch, so I walked away. However after seeing it and having it on, it's hard to look at anything else the same way. Anyone have one of these or see one/try one on? What were your opinions on it? Also how does the articulated rubber hold up? I had a cheapo black watch and I know that it scratched like hell and the paint was constantly being ripped off. As a newbie to watches, am I crazy for looking at a watch for $20k+ that has a rubber strap? Should I get this watch out of my head immediately?

This first picture is the one I was interested in, as the articulated rubber band comes in two different styles. The rest are just to show the beauty of the face. It also came in a SS with articulated rubber, but it didn't have the same POP when you saw it. Also came in full SS which wasn't too bad, but again - just not the WOW factor.

Beautiful watch. I really like the JLC Diving series. Don't pay anywhere near retail for it though, that would be crazy.

What would you suggest? I spoke to someone who told me they can get me it for $18 - should I be looking for a better deal?

its a beautiful watch... and when something like that gets in your head its usually a good buy, don't worry about what anybody else thinks. See if you can get a deal on it, if the deal feels right run with it.

JLC makes some of the most amazing watches and this is a great example, you should go for it but IMO shouldn't settle for anything less than 25-30% discount.

I would say somewhere around 15,5 would be a fair deal. If you can't find it at that price, let me know, I can probably set you up with someone.
