And the story behind the California Dial is great… if you guys have not heard about it look it up.
If I remember correctly the dial is actually a Rolex sample dial that they use to show their watchmaking clients the different numbering system, fonts etc. they have. Somehow this sample dial made it to a prototype that was approved without specifying numbering style… so it went as is with this multiple styling. The prototype was made in San Francisco and hence the California naming
