Melisse or Providence?

I haven't tried anything with a Michelin star in LA that isn't sushi (Zo and Mori) yet, and was wondering which one of the two to try next.

I know Chuck wrote something about these two from back in 2009, but has anyone been to either lately? Impressions? Yelp is not really helpful because you have to sift through a lot of reviews written by people who are better off eating the equivalent of California rolls.

both are top-notch; Providence if you want more seafood, Melisse if you want more "california" (eg, lighter french - but it's better than that sounds)

Thanks Chuck.

Decided to go to Melisse next week, will report back. From what I gathered I should get the tasting menu and not bother ordering a la carte?

Tried Melisse couple years ago but never went back again. I've had probably been to Providence around 20 times with the most recent visit about two weeks ago. My favorite French restaurant in LA used to be L'Orangerie on La Cienega before they closed it down a few years ago.
